How Can I Reduce Acne Scaring?

Acne affects 80% of people aged 11 to 30 years old, with millions suffering some degree of scarring from it. One of the most recent developments in acne scar treatment is the Fraxel laser; a branded skin resurfacing tool that uses fractional laser technology to gently damage the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and boosting collagen production.

The Fraxel laser also works on scaring from other sources and works for pigmentation removal. In this post, Dr Tass Cosmetic and Skincare Clinics discusses.

The Benefits of the Fraxel Laser as an Acne Scar Treatment

Fraxel laser treatment is a safe, non-invasive pigmentation removal and acne scar treatment designed to help rejuvenate the cells in the tissue to produce more collagen.

The technology is inspired by the human body’s ability to heal itself and the results are displayed in two levels; immediate and progressive. Immediately after the initial healing, you’ll notice softer, even-toned skin where your treatment took place. Progressively, you’ll see results occur over the following 3-6 months as the deeper layer of skin continues to heal. The laser treatment lasts at least several years before needing to revisit, depending on the severity and depth of the initial scars.

What Does a Fraxel Treatment Look Like?

You’ll need about two hours for this treatment. A topical numbing agent will be used on the treatment areas and the procedure itself will take around half an hour, depending on the size of the area.

It’s not uncommon to experience a little discomfort, like stinging or burning sensations during treatment, but special care instructions must be adhered to in the days following your procedure as your face heals. The cells treated by the laser die and are replaced with new, healthy skin cells, which leave your skin looking fresher, smoother and brighter.

Fraxel laser treatment recovery time is minimal, however, more aggressive Fraxel treatments may need up to ten days recovery time. You will generally need at least three sessions with the Fraxel laser within 4-6weeks for optimum results.
