How Do Fat Dissolving Injections Work?

As a non-surgical alternative to liposuction, fat dissolving injections are ideal for patients with minimal skin laxity and a small amount of submental fat. 

These injections work by using an active ingredient, which is an acid naturally occurring in the human body. When used in the fat around the chin, these injections permanently destroy fat cells using a process called adipocytolysis. Once fat cells are destroyed, they won’t be able to store fat again. 

What are the Results and Side Effects of Fat Dissolving Injections? 

Unlike liposuction, the injections won’t have instant results, but the recovery time is significantly less. Results of double chin removal from fat dissolving injections are noticeable after about six weeks.   

After the treatments, you can expect a slimmer, more contoured jawline and neck profile. Most people will also experience some skin-tightening benefits. Once the desired results have been achieved, retreatment is not expected. 

Recovery is minimal, with most patients experiencing mild to moderate discomfort while being treated. After the treatment, some swelling and tenderness is to be expected, particularly on the first day. This is a sign that the treatment is working to kill the fat cells. Pain, bruising, numbness, redness and tingling are all side effects that are mostly temporary and not widely common.

What is the Process for a Fat Dissolving Injection Treatment?

Before injections, a non-permanent template is placed on the skin to act as a guide for where to inject. Next, we ice the neck to numb the skin and clean the area before making about 20 small injections into the submental fat. Most patients will need at least two treatments in six-week intervals.
