Use Ice After your Treatment
Generally, it’s advised to stay away from extreme temperatures, however, a common side effect post dermal fillers is swelling. You can manage swelling by using a cold compress regularly. Some parts of the face might swell more than others, particularly injections around the mouth like lip filler, cheek or chin filler.

After you have dermal fillers, it’s crucial to keep the area cool. Avoiding extreme heat from saunas, steam rooms, and direct sunlight will help. The most common source of extreme heat is exercise. Try to avoid working out and heating up for the first 24–48 hours after treatment.

Manage Bruising
Bruising is another common side effect of dermal fillers. Ice packs and cold compresses may help if you are prone to bruising. It is advisable to sleep with your head propped up on a pillow or two to keep it elevated and to sleep on your back. Alcohol can lead to bruising following dermal fillers. Avoiding alcohol for a few days following your treatment is also highly recommended.
Take a Week Before you Travel
If you’re planning on travelling after your fillers, try to give yourself at least seven days between your flight and your treatment. Flying in a pressurised cabin is not recommended after dermal fillers, so make sure you leave enough time to recover before your departure.
Do Not Touch or Rub Injection Sites
Don’t touch injection sites and keep your skin clean following your dermal fillers, or this could lead to infection. Although extremely rare, dermal fillers can migrate within the skin during the first two weeks following the treatment. For this reason, it’s advised that patients do not get facials, massages (only on treated areas), microdermabrasion or heavily rub the skin around the filler sites.
